KAWS Companion “Passing Through” at the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia
KAWS – Companion (Passing Through) // Philadelphia 30th St. Station from Living Proof Magazine on Vimeo.
Days ago, one of Philadelphia’s most beautiful buildings, 30th St. Station, had a new visitor among the hustle and bustle of daily commutes.
Perched at the west end of the interior is a 16-foot tall sculpture with its head hanging in its hands. With X’s on it’s eyes, hands, and feet, the artist behind the massive fiberglass and metal installation should be well known to you.
Companion (Passing Through), the incredible work of the legendary KAWS now makes the Amtrak train station it’s home. First seen in Hong Kong, New York, The Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, CT, The High Museum, Atlanta, and The Modern, Fort Worth, Companion (Passing Through) will quietly sit at 30th St. Station until May 14th, 2013.
However, this morning saw much hubbub surrounding the installation as it received an official unveiling courtesy of the Pennsylvania Academy Of Fine Arts, the fine people who helped bring this important piece of artwork to our fair city of Philadelphia. Living Proof Magazine was on hand to document the festivities, which saw a large crowd gather to see the famed artist speak about the piece.
Takashi Murakami “ARHAT” Exhibition at Blum & Poe Gallery
Only days ago, Takashi Murakami opened his latest body of works entitled “ARHAT” at Blum & Poe in Culver City art district of Los Angeles. Introducing a impressive new selection of painting and sculptural works and if you follow Murakami’s Instagram you would have been able to get an insight, the prolific contemporary Japanese artist highlights inspiration from an ancient tale of Buddhist monks confronting decay and death as the pivotal element of these works.
