The organic vintage feel that the brand is known for prevails once again and provides a clue as what we can expect to find in the entire collection. Entitled “Dissertation on Symbolism and our Prayer Flag”, this season continues to take inspiration from and reference various ethnic cultures. Also included in the gallery above is the flag of the Asofo, a traditional warrior group of the Fante people of Ghana, and perhaps a further referential hint for the forthcoming collection.  The flag is currently on display at F.I.L. Tokyo until the beginning of February.

jose-parla-broken-language-exhibition-haunch-of-venison-1 London’s Haunch of Venisongallery is set to host a new solo exhibition of works by New York-based artist José Parlá. Entitled Broken Language, Parlá will bring his unique stylistic blend of expressive painting and calligraphic abstraction to three gallery spaces in a combination of new paintings, works on paper, photographs and sculptures. Known for a style that is influenced by and reactive to his environment, Parlá summarizes the work in this exhibition thus: For most of my life I have experienced being in transition and migration. This feeling allows me to bring the broken languages of the global community and its conditions into the gallery. My work is an empire of fragmented cacophonies, observed performances, palimpsestic musical gestures, and topographical compositions governing the essence of the cities I’ve travelled through. Broken Language runs between February 8 – March 28, 2013.

crossfades01 Is it just me or do Michael Johansson’s sculptures remind you of Pawel Nolbert’s Sneakercubes? Johansson’s three-dimensional works appear at Milan’s Flat Gallery as part of a solo exhibition by the artist, entitled Still Lifes. Johansson adds a sense of visual intrigue to everyday objects by repurposing them, tetris-like, into perfect cubes. The hues and textures of these newly configured sculptures are designed to present the objects to their audiences in a new light, with altered meaning. (via designboom)

nike-sportswear-2013-all-star-area-72-footwear-collection-1 The last time we left the fictional Nike Space Program (NSP) at last year’s mid-season basketball weekend in Orlando, our heroes had successfully launched into space on a mission to elevate the game to a greater galaxy. After a sudden Big Bang in Orlando, it has been months without contact as they disappeared into space. All hope is not lost, as a transmission has just been received at Area 72 — a top-secret facility isolated in the depths of the desert in Houston, Texas, home of this year’s mid-season showdown. Continuing the extraterrestrial design inspiration established in the Nike Basketball collection for Houston, Nike Sportswear presents a top-secret collection of five shoes celebrating the best of basketball.  Merging old-school models with new-age innovation, the premium collection includes the Nike Blazer Mid, Nike Vandal, Nike Lunar Force 1, Nike Barkley Posite Max and Nike Air Force Max 2013. The collection celebrates the legacy of iconic Nike Basketball models of the past, now infused with galactic textures, reflectivity and glow-in-the-dark highlights. Developed deep within Area 72’s top-secret testing facility, the five-shoe collection features a custom galaxy print also featured on Nike Basketball’s performance shoes for Houston. The print appears on the collar lining of each shoe. Since making its debut for Nike Basketball more than a decade ago, the Nike Raygun character is reincarnated on the tongue of each of these shoes.  With its trademark jetpack and alien physique, the Raygun is ready to strike opponents with fury. This top-secret Nike Sportswear collection is available beginning February 14 in limited quantities at select retail locations and Nike.com.

Reebok-Sneakersnstuff-Classic-Leather This year Reebok’s classic silhouette the Classic Leather celebrates its 30th birthday. To celebrate this Reebok invited their global Certified Network to design their own version of the model and first out is Sneakersnstuff. For this project we wanted to design a shoe that would work during the cold Swedish winter as it is released in January. Instead of a leather upper we went for a upper made of Cordura fabric that we mixed up with suede details. We added PlayDry and Thinsulate insulation to the shoe to keep the heat and dryness. As a twist we changed the colors of one of the Union Jacks to the Swedish colors. Simply a wearable pair of sneakers! The Reebok x Sneakersnstuff Classic Leather will be released at all Sneakersnstuff stores January 26th.
