We had the pleasure of visiting Lucas ‘MRKA’ Benarroch’s exhibition held at (BLANK) on 312 Bowery in NYC. The exhibition showcased MRKA’s prolific style and multi-dimensional artistry through both solo and collaborative pieces created by MRKA and his friends. We had the pleasure of chatting with MRKA to learn more about the background for his latest exhibit. Check out what MRKA had to say below and enjoy the visuals from the exhibition above.

“These are collages made from the inside part of envelopes. You know, the patterns inside? Cutting them and trying to make them 3D – recycling them. I cut the mat to break the rules of keeping it square. I played with the shapes inside to make things retro-futuristic looking.

“This blue project is typography, design, a little bit go graffiti – forming the letters – and technology – the glitches. Instead of going bold, normal, italic and condense-heavy, we have glitch, VHS distortion and all of the 90s, classic bullshit blue screen stuff applied to a type. We had 400 letters, and put each letter under the effect and really changed the code. We thought let’s cast them on metal so we can print with them and actually preserve the way we actually used to communicate in the 90s as a fossil.

“It was going to be a jacket, but it ended up being a jacket that came in a wooden box, with a spray can, print, and certificate of authenticity – which is a vinyl. We did 12 boxes and there are 3 left. After that, we wanted to do a presentation just for the can. They gave me a gallery in Miami and I printed the Wutang logo on the floor, and after that we did the bike.
