Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, but in the 1920s, that place would likely be a back alley speakeasy or the police station. The Prohibition era was in full swing and the streets were drier than British wit. Hidden bars located in the dark recesses of metropolitan living kept in-the-know locals and mob bosses lubricated with the authorities being none the wiser. Over the years, restrictions on alcohol loosened up and drinking has become a social pastime. Speakeasies still exist for those in-the-know, without the criminal element.
