Established in 1906 in Northamptonshire, the home of British shoemaking, George Cox has built a reputation for their uncompromising craftsmanship and traditional values. George Cox regained popularity in the early 1970s when Malcolm McLaren sold them at his shop in London, which McLaren and his partner Vivienne Westwood had changed to accommodate more rocker-oriented fashion. Tying into Cox’s legacy of fashion, Alife has teamed up with Ships Jet Blue to create a timepiece capsule paying homage to the ‘2 Tone’ era of the late 70s-early 80s, developed by young musicians in England who grew up listening to 1960s Jamaican music. 2 Tone sound combined influences from ska, reggae and rocksteady – with elements of punk rock and new wave. You might know it as part of the original (non-racist) cultural skinhead movement.
Utilizing George Cox’s creeper-esque ‘Pop Boy’ and ‘Gibson’ silhouettes, Alife has paired a classic monkey jacket and tipped polos for this Ships Jet Blue capsule — all indicative of the era. Alongside the Ships Jet Blue pieces, George Cox has released a woven toe box ‘Pop Boy’ hand crafted in Italy, and a debossed ‘Gibson’ handmade in the UK – both available in-store at Alife.
Limited to runs of 50, the clothing collection is available today only at Ships Jet Blue and Alife New York.
