Mirroring designer Jun Takahashi’s progressively serious approach to running gear, the Holiday 2014 Gyakusou collection is more conceptual than previous efforts, combining Nike‘s Research Lab innovations with Takahashi’s own athletic insights. The results show a rethinking of modern running gear, imagining what uniforms might look like in 1,000 years. This was the precedent for designing the ‘Men’s Utility Long Tights’, a combination of running shorts and running tights, that eliminates the bulk of two layers without compromising functionality or comfort. The same thinking is applied to the ‘Engineered Sleeve Composite Jacket’, which uses multiple materials to allow breathability, movement and comfort. Long-sleeved tops and pants, shorts and headwear all arrive with a similar philosophy, and signal a move further into functional running territory, designed single-mindedly for exercise, rather than street wear.
