You eyes have not deceived you, this is really a thing. RAW for the Oceans is a collaborative effort between G-Star, Pharrell Williams, Bionic Yarn and Parley TV. This plastic-to-denim project is the first of its kind, and not only opens up a new frontier for the denim front, but does right by the environment. So how does this work? RAW for the Oceans receives plastic pollutants from various oceans and breaks those pieces of plastic into small chips. The chips are then turned into fibers, which are then turned into strong core yarn helixed with cotton to give birth to Bionic yarn. Lastly, the yarn is woven or knitted into a special fabric which can be used to create all sorts of pieces like outwear, jeans, tees and hats. Select styles are available here.
