Agentry PR kicked off 2015 with New York Men’s Day, presented by Cadillac. This season, the bill of designers expanded to twelve unique talents who’ve presented their Fall-Winter 2015 collections simultaneously. On Wednesday, Agentry PR took over Industria Superstudios in NYC’s Meatpacking District and we had the pleasure of stopping by to experience what some of the latest and greatest menswear’s designers have in store for the remainder of the year.

Chapter debuted its FW15 collection, UNKNOWN, which showcased 17 unique looks for men and 6 looks on the female form. Featuring outwear, basis and the brand’s much loved cropped pants, the color palette ranged from hues of black to dark tones of purple, blue and green. Inspired by sci-fi and the the projected image of extra-terrestrials, the UNKNOWN installation was brought to life by pod-like structures and angular lines created by the presentation space. We caught up with Devin Carlson, Chapter’s Creative Director, to learn more about story behind UNKNOWN.

The whole thing got started because of the 1950s Space Race. I was looking at space suits, and how function they were and it was really intriguing how everything was asymmetrical because it’s where it needs to be. As I got more into that, you see funding in the late 70s dropping out of NASA and those governmental programs, and the rise of sci-fi and the cyber-punk sub genre, and you see this whole different, dystopian kind of outlook of space and the unknown. That’s where you’ll see the asymmetrical detailing, and the raw edges. You’ll see the asymmetrical detailing in a lot of the coats.

We washed things down a little bit this season. We always use a lot of rayon blends, so we used some washed rayon blends, some hand-washed knits, a lot of boiled wools and heavier woven fabrics. We mixed natural fabrics with synthetic fabrics.

Since I was into this sci-fi, in my mind, I pictured an alien in earlier sci-fi movies – a long creature with long, skinny legs and an oversized top. You can see it in the outerwear pieces – dropped shoulders and cropped, tighter pants. My favorite pieces are the asymmetrical detailing coats. This coat has a plastic piece on the hood that comes down- that’s practical when it rains.
