When it comes to lifestyle sneakers there aren’t too many names turning heads at the moment beyond the usual suspects. Most brands seem content to reinvent last season’s designs — we’re not complaining, we like those styles — but it’s refreshing that the likes of GREATS are pushing the boat out a bit further, delivering fresh styles while managing to keep things classic. The New York brand’s newest silhouette is named for legendary track and field coach Mel Rosen, and pays tribute to the iconic American running shoe. The Rosen does its job nicely, giving a bit of fresh perspective to the vintage running shoe mould, but staying wearable. A durable, high density nylon and suede upper sits atop a dual density EVA midsole, while circular lugs feature along the tread, and a Vibram FREERIDE outsole finishes the design, complimenting the upper for a clean, smooth look. The sneaker will be available from GREATS’ online store in three colorways — Cadet, Nimbus and Cargo — on February 17.
