In 2001, Obey Clothing came into fruition, serving as an extension of Shepard Fairey‘s artwork. Keeping inline with Fairey’s vision, the line draws inspiration from military wear, work wear and the various cultural movements which Fairey has been exposed to. The messages on Obey’s garments mirrors those on Fairey’s street posters, ensuring cohesiveness through different mediums. With several high-profile artist collaborations under their belt, Obey continues to dominate in the realms of fashion and art and we’re elated to review their profound 2014 releases.

What was your brand’s best collaborative release in 2014?
Glen E. Friedman is a legendary photographer whose captured some of the most memorable moments in skateboarding, punk rock and hip hop over the last 30 years. He’s been behind some of the most iconic album covers for artists such as the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy and Suicial Tendencies. With the release of Friedman’s book, My Rules, Obey saw that moment as the perfect opportunity to release some of the many collaborative efforts which Friedman and Fairey have amassed over the years.

What was your brand’s best limited edition release in 2014?
The 25th Anniversary collection; it was only available to independent retailers and the web. The collection revisits many of Fairey’s earlier works, bringing the pieces to the consciousness of the newer generation. The small collection consists of graphic tees, hoodies and skate decks – all of which depict Fairey’s artwork from 1996, 2000 and 2001.

What was your best collaboration with an artist in 2014?
Brian Woo, better known as Dr. Woo, is regarded as one of the biggest, rising tattoo artists and influencers of our generation. He worked under the legendary Mark Mahoney at the Shamrock Social Club and eventually developed a strong following for himself. After receiving some recognition, he delved into the realm of fashion and design and created a line called Surrender Everything.
