The Akomplice brand was born on one random night in 2004. Brothers Patrick and Mike Liberty were musicians who’d never gotten involved with anything fashion related. Mike suggested doing something in which the two could venture into fearlessly, and proposed creating a clothing company. Rooted heavily in hip hop and skate cultures, the Akomplice brand also reflects individualism and street culture to the fullest.
To recap Akomplice‘s experiences in 2014, we connected with Patrick Liberty and learned about the brand’s most remarkable collaborative and philanthropic efforts.
Who are the creative directors for your brand?
Mike McCarney and Patrick Liberty.
What was your brand’s most successful release in 2014?
Our summer collection, “For the Love.” The three standout items from there were the Black-Striped Moan t-shirt, Paradise Umbrella and the Blue Dilation Anorak.
What was your brand’s best collaborative release in 2014?
That’s hard to say, but if I had to pick one it would be the one with Ride Snowboards as we grew up in the mountains an hour away from where the X-Games happen.
What was your brand’s best limited edition release in 2014?
The Griz Varsity Jacket. It sold out almost immediately at $140 a piece.
What was your best collaboration with an artist in 2014?
I’m going to go with our Original Kids collaboration, where orphans painted over images that we then screen printed onto the t-shirts that resulted in capital to help build the orphanage an art studio.
