Astrid Andersen

Astrid Andersen continues her exploration of the dichotomy and synergy of traditional Japanese culture alongside the contemporary urban environment once again for Fall/Winter 2015. For winter, samurai warrior philosophy is transplanted to the concrete metropolises of the USA. In fact, Jim Jarmush’s 1999 film Ghostdog (with its central theme of a gangster living in the New Jersey “Industrialized State” via the way of the samurai) perfectly captures this mood. Colours and silhouettes are inspired by this transience, while re-appropriation of texture and bold branding remain at the heart of the collection, with knitwear introduced as a new development for the breakthrough brand. High definition, photo-real heat transfers depicting oil with a shimmer effect are used throughout the collection as part of an ongoing collaboration with Avery Dennison, which also sees 3D moulded tonal badges being used to bring texture into external embellishments and branding. Take a look at some of the key looks from the FW15 collection above.
