Anyone whose followed Big Sean since 2007 should be aware of his Finally Famous crew. Not so much a rap-pack as they are brothers, the Finally Famous boys have been beside Sean since his adolescence and they’ve all played a major hand in helping each other grow. One of the guys who stands at the forefront of the Finally Famous family has recently shut down social media with his viral smash #LikeKanye. Earlly Mac is one of Detroit’s most promising artists and his recent successes are seemingly limitless. From scoring writing credits on Justin Bieber’s Believe album, to co-headlining a show with OG Maco to collaborating with Rihanna, Earlly Mac has already accomplished a slew of remarkable feats. We had the pleasure of kicking it with him. Enjoy the experience below.

How did you get into music?

Easy. My mom’s a singer, my dad plays the guitar. It’s in my blood. My cousin had a group called R.J.’s Latest Arrival. People my age wouldn’t know about it, but that also had a hand in it.

In what ways has your life changed since appearing on some of Sean’s earlier records like Mr. Incredible and Hollywood?

I’m just so down to earth, man, I didn’t even know – or maybe I was ignorant. Shit, I don’t know. Maybe i just didn’t know what was really going on there, what was really at hand. I was younger, nobody really had done it before me like how I had a chance to do it and how I’d been doing it. So, I didn’t really know what was going on, I just thought I was on this song and people may or may not know me. I didn’t even look at it like that. I just wanted to have some fun with my boy and make some dope shit.

Explain the craze behind Cartier eyewear in Detroit.

It erupted in Detroit as a signification that you were the man. You have enough money to buy these glasses. The design in itself, even if it wasn’t pricey, to me is like crazy. I love the fucking design. The old school Cartier Bubinga Wood is just crazy. Every person that I see wearing it, it looks good on them.

What other style trends do you feel that Detroit has given birth to?

We did the stitched leather jackets with the designers all over. We’ve been doing that since like 2000 and it still hasn’t bubbled over yet. It has a little bit, like you see Dej Loaf in the all-white mink. But, if you’re from outside Detroit, you probably wouldn’t know. We do the minks, we do the gators. Biggie said, “Stink pink gators, my Detroit players.” That’s what we do, that’s our culture.

Describe Burn Rubber’s position in Detroit’s culture.

They are the street wear boutique for Detroit, period. They are the leaders. They’re the shit. They brought what we didn’t have, they filled the void. Rick and Ro revamped Burn Rubber. They brought life to the brand and to the city. Rick won’t stop doing collabs; I don’t even know how he finds the time to do all this shit. And they’re always a hit, always a smash.

What’s next for Earlly Mac?

Dropping a couple of singles. I got a single with Sean, got a single with JMSN. It’s going to be dope. I’m all doing a project called God Knows, dropping somewhere in the beginning of the new year.
