BORN X RAISED from WHAT YOU STEAL on Vimeo.

In recent years, we’ve seen the emergence of a plethora of streetwear brands. Unfortunately, many of these brands don’t last long. We’ve seen our share of success stories and failures. Often, brands will emulate the moves of other brands which inspire them. There’s nothing wrong with this approach, but it’s important to be genuine, personable, fresh and innovative. The movers and shakers are the ones who usually survive in this dog-eat-dog environment. This week, we’re happy to feature a brand created by two dudes who have stayed true to themselves, and kept it real with their following since the days of their brand’s conception.

The brand founder, “Spanto”, conceptualized BornxRaised while incarcerated, and it serves as a response to the gentrification he’s experience in his neighborhood: Venice, CA. When you have famous friends in the scene, who support your art, it’s pretty easy to get a buzz for yourself. Prodigy of Mobb Deep and Evidence of Dilated Peoples were seen rocking BornxRaised and the buzz grew tremendously. Spanto linked up with co-founder “Alex 2Tone”, initially seeking advice, but the two bounced ideas back and forth and finally decided to put the plan into action.

In just two years, BornxRaised has evolved from a reaction to cultural change, to a brand which is all about Los Angeles. You can scoop BornxRaised pieces from stockists such as Union LA, Colette, Supply Headquarters and The Hideout.
