After an extended period of lagging behind the competition, 2014 has been an undeniably strong year for adidas Originals. The launch of the ZX Flux seems to have garnered the brand huge exposure and sales in the lifestyle market, easily taking the place of last year’s favorite, the Nike Roshe. But it’s been the more low-key releases that have really swayed the connoisseurs, the latest of which – the SHIELD collection – continues the trend. The SHIELD release takes two classics – the Superstar 80 and Samba – and dresses them up, with a laser-cut tonal canvas panel applied to both silhouettes’ uppers. The visible effect is a snakeskin-like textured outer surface — a double layer, or shield, if you will.
The Superstar 80 comes in both black and white options, while the Samba arrives in delectable black or burgundy. They’ll be available globally tomorrow, at select adidas Originals retailers.
