Today is Big L‘s birthday and even 15 years after the Harlem MC’s death, there’s still a huge population of hip hop OGs that would bust your head if you told them that Big L isn’t the best lyricist ever.
Our focus here at SlamXHype is collaboration and what we find the most remarkable about Big L is that every time he asked someone to donate a guest verse to one of his songs (or donated one of his own to another rapper’s track) he always brought out the best in them. Everyone wanted to shine when they rapped with Big L, because he was that much of a leader in the New York hip hop community.
