Today, the orgy of film premieres and glitzy industry parties that is The Cannes Film Festival descends once again on the French Riviera. And though you’re probably not going to be there to see the films (much less the bevy of posh models hanging off arms of Turkish billionaires), there’s at least a few films playing over the course of the 11-day event that you should have on your radar.
Why’s that? Well, because some of them will actually be good movies, worth seeing once they hit American theaters and/or iTunes. Knowing about the critically acclaimed films at Cannes will be a useful addition to your arsenal of icebreakers when hitting on young ladies at bars (“Hello miss, have you seen XYZ? I heard it had the critics at Cannes buzzing”). And some will be contenders come award season, like previous Cannes top performers such as Blue Is The Warmest Color, The Tree Of Life, Fahrenheit 9/11, and that one movie about old people falling in love or something … Amour.
