What do you do with designer sweaters from last season? Well, you follow the guidelines of that age old saying “Out with the old and in with the new.” Meaning you get rid of them. So, the Kiki Niesten store in Maastricht enlisted Dutch art duo Lernert & Sander to unravel knitwear from Jil Sander, Prada, Céline and Chloé and package them nicely into tiny, branded balls of yarn.

There’s also something in there about waste, and the absurd value we place on what is essentially a ball of string…

About the project, which is fittingly called “Last Season”, Kiki Niesten says,

“This spring we made space for the arrival of new collections at Kiki Niesten by reducing last season knitted garments from Fall/Winter ‘13 by Céline, Chloé, Jil Sander and Prada to balls of yarn: symbols of hope and aspiration.”
