Alien Stompers

The most sought after movie tie-in sneaker in history is clearly Marty McFly’s Nike Air Mag kicks. But back in 1987, it was actually Reebok who invented Movie X Sneaker collaborations: the sportswear label took the futuristic footwear that Sigourney Weaver’s character, Ellen Ripley, wore in James Cameron’s sic-fi romp Aliens and created the Alien Stompers.

The original red-grey-dark-grey iteration featured a velcro lace cover and ankle attachment along with extra-comparments on the sole, and were released with the tagline “A shoe that you won’t see for 150 years”.

Every few years, Reebok updates the Alien Stomper with more movie tie-ins, including Indiana Jones and Blade Runner editions. Then in 2010, an all-3M Alien Stomper (called the VCMP for “Visual counter measures project”) collab with Hanon hit the market in Britain, basically launching the current obsession with the reflective material.
