It may have been that the ’90s and ’00s were just an anything goes (ugly) time for entertainer fashion. It may have been that the baggy clothes of the day make everything rappers wore back then look foolish to us today. It may just be that guys grew up, got rich, and started rocking Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, and all the other brands that they could now afford.
Either way, Rappers Got Really, Really, Really Into High Fashion In 2013.
Kanye is example number one above: he went from pink polo, over-sized rugby shirts, and (fake) Louis Vuitton backpacks back in his College Dropout years to all-Maison Martin Margiela-everything (including a bedazzled mask) on his Yeezus Tour.
Here are 7 more:
Jay Z
The ex-king over XXL Rocawear even wrote his new fashion muse a song. Most of the words were “Tom Ford”.
Justin Timberlake
The king of pop used to do things like that on the left. Now, he does things like this on the right.
Rihanna
When Rihanna was young she had that strange club-hopping-Barbados-tween look. Now, she’s the face of Balmain.
Chris Brown
If only his personality had matured as well.
Big Sean
It’s funny how a set of chains begins to look far more elegant when you change the fit of the clothes improves around them.
T.I.
Back when T.I.‘s 2001 debut I’m Serious dropped, he wasn’t about his clothes. Come 2012′s Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head, he’s learned the value of velvet.
Eve
She used to be a Ruff Ryder, now she’s a far more refined rider.
