Rob Machado continues his Through The Lens video series with a third episode, in which the surfer and filmmaker catches up with Sig Zane, the iconic Hawaiian aloha shirt creator/cultural practitioner. Traveling to the Big Island of Hawaii to meet Zane, the pair discuss the designer’s defining prints, how they have become an island identity, and the craft behind making them. Zane still hand-draws his illustrations, and hand-cuts each design with a utility knife on amberlith film, keeping the process delicate and organic. In celebration of the episode, Hurley are set to release a capsule collection featuring iconic Sig Zane patterns, which includes a limited edition hat, tee, and pair of board shorts for men, alongside a couple of women’s products. Stay tuned for a release early next year.
