Having just been featured in a video for the new MOCAtv channel, French photographer, artist and activist JR has also recently completed a stunning new mural in Washington D.C. The mural is part of his Unframed Project where he applies archival imagery to new contexts on the world’s streets. The new mural takes an old Ernest Withers photograph taken furing the 1968 Memphis sanitation workers strike and sees it pasted on the corner of 14th Street and T streets in Washington – a spot that is significant as the site where riots took place after the assassination of Martin Luther King. He states: “People say, ‘I am a man,’ but they care less about the color [of their skin]. It’s “we are humans, we are here, we want to exist.” (Arrested Motion)
