Drawing on British gang uniforms and examples of Brutalist architecture, designer and recent London College of Fashion graduate John Alexander Skelton has unveiled his first major solo collection for Fall/Winter 2012, entitled, “British Lion”. The collection takes its design cues from London’s working class as well as borrowing the predominantly black palette worn by notorious ultra-violent Liverpudlian gangs. Fusing minimalist tailoring with sportswear, the collection is unique and progressive, with strong geometric colour blocks accenting lines and angles in a very clean overall collection. In Skelton’s words: ”Basically, it is what I would love to wear, I regard ease of wear as essential to my process. I believe that it is a very grounded collection that has a strong air of identity and sense of attitude”.
