Fred Perry Laurel Wreath Spring/Summer 2013 Collection Lookbook

Inspiration for the Fred Perry Spring/Summer 2013 Collection is derived from the British graphic art movement of the early 1980’s for inspiration. Malcolm Garrett and Peter Saville album covers signaled a change in direction and mood for post-punk youth subculture and Neville Brody’s visual language for The Face pushed the boundaries of magazine publishing.

A bold use of colour and a sense of playfulness echo earlier pop art influences. Norman McLaren’s experimental film-making techniques inspire the fresh, hand-crafted and fundamentally new feel of the collection. Graphic elements are key, whether it be stripes or dots, an industrial knit print that gives textural depth to knits or an intense stewart tartan that give a saturated glow to shirting. A three colour dot ‘space print’ smacks of early computer cards. Experimental construction can be seen on classic silhouettes – true to the Fred Perry aesthetic and a recurring theme of recent Laurel Wreath collections with curved seam shifts in knitwear and polo’s showcasing contrast colour pops. Advanced fabrications include tactile warp knits.
