Photographer Jamie Hawkseworth has taken a selection of beautiful shots inside the studio of Chinese artist and dissident Ai Wei Wei. Photographed for AnOther Magazine in Beijing, the shots portray two elements of the artist’s life and practice; first, a direct look at his plight, staring, seemingly at wits end, into the camera, guarded constantly by Chinese policemen, and second, portraying a location of simple beauty, from where Wei Wei creates stunning and provocative work. It’s great to see a studio visit with this much emotion present.
